This morning many of the Little Frogs were busy at the tables, engaged in tasks that were challenging for their hands and fingers. Cutting and stringing beads both involve fine motor coordination that is a developing skill at this age, and one that provides a real sense of accomplishment.
After a brief Morning Meeting in our room, we headed over to meet with our friends the Turtles, for another "Inside Outside Day." The Turtles explained what the Inside Choices would be, and we added some ideas for Outside Choices.
Outside, bikes were a very popular choice today, as many of our friends are learning how to use the larger pedal bikes, and enjoy switching off from the smaller coaster bikes to the bigger bikes.
Inside, we had shared snack with the Turtles, and friends were free to choose to take a break for snack when they got hungry or thirsty. The Little Frogs really enjoyed the color mixing activity that was set up inside. Here, they could experiment with what would happen when they squirted one color into another. We liked it so much that we have decided to add some color to our own water table tomorrow.
We also found another SPIDER today - this one living under the picnic table. The Little Frogs got the spider moving by blowing on him, and the group followed him across the patio, as he tried to steer clear of the "wind." The spider travelled all the way into the garden, where the Little Frogs decided he was "home."
When we came back inside, we read a new book entitled (appropriately enough), "I Love Spiders." The lower school science teacher has invited us up to come and talk to her about our interest in spiders and to get some of our questions answered. Stay tuned for this adventure.
Over lunch, we had lots of conversation about many things. One important topic was our decision about the guinea pigs. It seems that even those of us who were somewhat nervous about the guinea pigs coming to live with us, are now enthused about taking care of them. Any day now, they could arrive!
Thank you again for creating this tangible way of being with the children each day. I noticed in today's photos that the children are moving from playing "next to each other" to "playing with each other". It's lovely to see their development unfold. Thanks for creating such an amazing nurturing and learning environment for everyone!
